Exploring Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon)

During our 6D5N vacation in Vietnam, we spent most of our time exploring, bargaining, shopping and dinning in Hồ Chí Minh City (HCMC) a.k.a Saigon. This blog is a list of suggested places where you can pay a visit when you are in HCMC, take note, only the city!

(1) Bến Thành Market @ District 1

When you are in HCMC, Bến Thành Market is must visit market, especially shopaholics! I would say this market is the best market for bargaining souvenirs, local handicrafts and áo dài (Vietnamese national costume). If you are pretty good at bargaining, you may bargain up the item to 70% of its original price (still depending on the item and of course, your bargaining skills).

Day time, the market inside the building will open and it will be closed at night. However, the "party" will not end that early, because at night, outside of the market will be opened - night market. There, souvenirs and local cuisine can be found easily! Do have a try!

(2) War Remnants Museum @ District 3

For people who love history, or military equipment, or would like to expose to military equipment, then you must visit the War Remnants Museum! This War Remnants Museum is mainly reflects about the happening events during Vietnam War (American phase).

The entry fee is VND 10,000 (approximately USD 0.50). The War Remnants Museum consists of 3 levels and several divisions, do spend few hours there!

(3) Reunification Palace @ District 1

Reunification Palace, previously known as Independence Palace was once belongs to the South Vietnamese government. Well, we didn't enter, not because not interested, but because we were unwilling to wait the lunch break to over (close during lunch time, same goes to War Remnants Museum)! LOL lame excuse right? Anyway, if you had the chance, just visit it for me, ok?

(4) Saigon Notre-Dame Basilica @ District 1

Saigon Notre-Dame Basilica a.k.a Basilica of Our Lady of The Immaculate Conception is a cathedral and the main church in HCMC. A statue of the Blessed Mother is located outside of the cathedral. Do spend there few minutes if you would like to leave your footprint there, and needless to say, take some photos!

(6) Saigon Central Post Office @ District 1

Next to Saigon Notre-Dame Basilica, is the Saigon Central Post Office.

In the post office, you may grab some souvenirs too! Not everything can be found in Bến Thành Market though.

(7) Municipal Theatre @ District 1

In HCMC, there is a opera house, namely Municipal Theatre or well known as Saigon Opera House. From time to time, there will be shows. But it is merely for taking photos during normal days.

(8) Saigon River @ District 1

At night, you may try to dine at I-don't-know-what-to-call, say riverside or maybe Saigon River dinner cruise. There, many boats will be there and public may board the boat for dinner, or cruising for entertainment or relaxation, or anything that I mentioned. Do have a try!

(9) Bình Tây Market @ District 6

Bình Tây Market, can be also known as China Market, is a place which I think not worth going... Because, it is quite a distant from District 1 and also I think not a suitable place for souvenirs, unless you wanna look for a wholesaler to get some bulk of items! Lotsa items can be found there, such as clothes, kitchen appliances, foods etc etc. But like I said, it will be more suitable for those who would like to buy in bulk!

Apart from this list, there are a lot more places that you can visit, just depends whether you are interested or not. Anyway, do check out my other related posts yo!
