My visit to Kek Lok Si Temple, Penang

In my opinion, visiting Kek Lok Si Temple is a must if you're in Penang! Now now, just kidding, it's not a must, but it's one of the visiting spots if you're in Penang Island. Reason? Because Kek Lok Si Temple is the largest Buddhist temple in Southeast Asia!

Under renovation.

Getting there is very easy, especially with public bus, Rapid Penang. And yeah, that's what we did on our trip to Penang, traveling around Penang with Rapid Penang! Who are the 'we' that I'm talking about? Read my previous post - My trip getting to Penang & going back to Kuala Lumpur.

Ah well, since Chinese New Year is coming soon, the temple is decorated with thousands and thousands of chinese lanterns! Here are some photos:

Wonderful eh? For your info, if you go to Kek Lok Si temple during Chinese New Year, the temple will eventually open until late night, the best part is that the lanterns will be lighted up! So, be there if you had the chance!

Anyway, if you're in the temple, be sure to visit the Kuan Yin Statue, it's as tall as 30.2m and made out of bronze. From the temple, you may either drive up or take the incline lift - RM2 per way.

How's the Kuan Yin Statue looks like? You wouldn't ask this question, because you can see the statue from downhill! Anyway, it looks like this:

Basically, the 16 crafted dragon pillars and 3 concentric octagonal roofs are still under construction, final touch up perhaps, you may see it at the photo below:

They are really huge! Hmm alright, I think that's it for now, be sure to check out the relevant blog posts about my trip to Penang with my 3 photo-kaki-eat-non-stop-out-of-mind-whatever-high-school-friends!

And oh wait! In conjunction with this rabbit year, a bunny from Kek Lok Si Temple would like to say something:
