Malaysians, 1 of the Largest Sugar Consumers in the World

First, I will let the image below do the talking, hence, click on the image below for a clearer view.

Got shocked? No? Surprisingly, Malaysia is in the list and ranked #8 in the world! Secondly, I hope everyone is willing to read a small portion of an article that I've Googled.

The Consumers Association of Penang (CAP) is concerned that sugar consumption among Malaysians is increasing at an alarming rate. The high sugar intake is reflected by the serious health problems and debilitating diseases striking Malaysians each day.

Early in 2009 Datuk Shahrir Abdul Samad the former Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs announced that Malaysia is the 8th highest sugar users in the world.

In the 1970s, Malaysians consumed about 17 teaspoons of sugar a day. This figure went up to about 21 teaspoons a day in the 1980s. By the 1990s Malaysians were consuming an average of 24 teaspoons of sugar per day but now the figure has jumped to 26 teaspoons.
If you're interested to read further about the above article, kindly visit HERE. Well people, do you want illnesses like diabetes, heart disease or obesity to obsess you in your entire life? I hope you don't want to. So people, open up your eyes widely!

Received 8 Parts of 'Build a Solar System Model'

On Sunday, I've successfully subscribed the 'Build a Solar System Model' magazines (with parts of course) in the official website, http://www.build-solar-system.com. On Monday, I received a phone call whereby the person in charge asked me whether interested to purchase Part 2 and Part 4 till Part 10 (Part 3 is free) in 1 shot, without second thought, I just replied: "OK!" and indirectly, I've paid RM239.20. Uh~

On Wednesday, I got a message from my sister and she told me that my items have arrived! WOW! That was quick! Unfortunately, I had no chance to discover and touch it, until December 2010!!!!! Reason, I'm in the East while my items were posted to West (free postage). Basically, the package includes Part 2, Part 4 till Part 10, 3 free printouts, a free binder and a free toolkit, as stated in the website. Somehow, I did not receive Part 3 yet, next month perhaps? Anyway, see the picture below.

Image: 9 parts in 1 go.

Well, since I'm in the East, thus the picture above was taken by my sister. The moment I saw this picture, my hands get itchier! How I wish I can assemble it right now! So for now, 9 parts are in my hand and 43 parts (RM1285.70) to go!

Stay tuned for more...

A Mega Project for Me and Myself - Build a Solar System Model

16th of May 2010, I dropped by to a local magazine store to get a copy of Sunday Star (Sarawak Edition) and at the same time, I sought around whether HWM Magazine for May issue is being released. As far as I know, that magazine store never bring in HWM Magazine, yet, I just wanna try my luck and I didn't put any hope to get a copy of it. Before I set my feet out, something else has caught my eyes and I was stunned for few seconds. Yes, as per title, "BUILD A SOLAR SYSTEM". I think some of you may heard about it previously, because it was released quite some time, only thing Malaysia is slower.

How it caught my eyes? It was so big and it was displayed near the counter, so and so, here comes my interest towards our solar system, again, after stopped for a long time since I entered university life. Basically, in order to build a solar system model of our own, we need to buy or subscribe the magazines with the title of "Build a Solar System", weekly. Each issue will attach with the parts of the solar system, parts by parts. Just look at the images below for the first issue/part.

Image 1: Part 1, front view.
Image 2: Part 1, rear view.
Image 3: A notice stated there, read it.
Image 4: Part 1.

Stunned? Interested? Ah, I'm gonna try to get all of the parts, 52 parts in total (refer to Image 3). As for the price, it costs RM12.90 for the first part while the remaining 51 parts are RM29.90 each! RM12.90 + (51 x RM29.90) = RM1537.80!!! This is sure a mega project for me and myself. In my opinion, the best is to subscribe the "Build a Solar System" instead of going to magazine stores to get the parts. Because, it will be published weekly, which means 4 parts within 1 month. Furthermore, there are many freebies if you subscribe it. Anyhow, to find out more detailed information, kindly visit www.build-solar-system.com. Here's a video where Sir Patrick Moore introduces the solar system model.

Guess I've brought myself into "trouble". Initially, my plan was to get a speedlight (either new SB-600 or 2nd hand SB-800) or a 8mm Samyang fisheye lens for my Nikon D70 by the end of this year. Now, I think I gotta delay the speedlight/fisheye. Moreover, I think I might stop purchasing HWM Magazine until I completed the 'Solar System' project! Oh by the way, I'm getting this solar system model by subtracting my monthly allowance from my dad. hehehe. Uh, I can't wait to assemble it!

What is Blogging?

Blog, derived from the word 'web log', known as a shared online journal where people can post daily entries about their personal experiences and hobbies. So, are you a new blogger or an internet surfer and has intention to start blogging? If you do, do continue reading this topic though.

Before getting started, I would emphasize that blogging is 1 of the internet activities that consumes a lot of time. We may spend hours and hours to sit in front of our computer for surfing, for gaming, for messaging and so do blogging. Yet, each individual has their own effort towards blogging. Some bloggers tend to blog 1 day 1 post, 2 posts per week, or 5 posts per month, or even 10 posts per day. So, what is it all about? Well, there are no definite answers for it.

Blogging is mainly relying on respective blogger's hands. In general, contents of a blog are belonging to the interests of that particular blogger. Most bloggers love to blog about their daily life, where blog is a modern diary, so called e-diary. Some bloggers love to blog about photos, where we can call it as a photoblog, some may blog about foods around us and etc etc. A real time blogger or a serious blogger usually has a specific content for his/her own blog. Apparently, bloggers are free to blog about anything.

Have you ever question yourself, is blogging fun? Or will blogging be fun? Well, if you ask me, I definitely will say, "Yes, of course it is fun!" Reason? I like to share my stuffs with people around the world. On the other hand, did you know that blogging can help you to earn some money? We will talk about it some other time, perhaps.

So, wanna start blogging? I would recommend all of you to begin with blogger.com, as it's very simple and easier to handle. Alternatively, you may even try wordpress.com and wordpress.org or xanga.com. Cheers ;)

Pizza & Pasta, Miri, Sarawak

Wanna tryout something special in Miri? Here's a local restaurant I would recommend to give it a shot, known as Pizza & Pasta.

Clearly, the name of the shop is known as Pizza & Pasta, but it doesn't mean that they only serve pizza and pasta, in fact, they have variety of choices of foods from everywhere. Get what I mean? They also serve pizza bun, garlic bread, baked rice, sushi, fried kuey tiaw and WOW! Moreover, they have their own special menus, as below!

Image 1: PP Special drink.

Image 1 is showing Pizza & Pasta own special drink, known as PP Special, which only costs RM2.50 each. PP Special contains milk, lemon, basil seeds and kiwi. I would say it is very delightful! Give it a try though!

Image 2: Mee goreng sambal.

I was attracted by their mee goreng sambal, as it was advertised in the local newspapers (Borneo Post), it only costs RM2 per plate!!! Most of all, it's really NYUMMY!!!! I can rate this 5 out of 5! No joke! Oh by the way, try to request for pedas tambah pedas, it will looks like as the image above.

Image 3: PP special pizza.

Image 3 is showing Pizza & Pasta own made pizza, namely PP special pizza, it costs RM8. PP special pizza contains tuna, button mushroom, pineapple and so on. Erm, it doesn't really taste good, but the crusts are crunchy! And oh, the size is medium.

Image 4: The restaurant.

Well, image 4 is showing the look of the restaurant. You may choose to sit either inside with air-cond or outside with... smokers, hehe. Overall, this is one of the unique hideouts I've seen in Miri. Like I mentioned, they have variety of choices of foods, marvelous!

So, here are some details of Pizza & Pasta.
Location: I don't think you need the address, Pizza & Pasta is located exactly next Boulevard Shopping Complex! Not opposite or behind.

Never Ending Assessments

My dearest readers,

My point of posting this post is to inform all of you that I'm not gonna update my blog as frequent as usual. Reason? As per title, my assessments, such as lab reports, assignments and mini project are piling up of all a sudden.

A little intro in case you don't know, Imma 2nd year 1st semester student in Curtin University and taking the course of Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering. So, I've suffered through almost 50% of the entire course. Tell you what, my 2nd year 1st semester gonna end at the end of June 2010. Gosh, no hard feeling.

Well, this morning, I've compiled a list of my assessments. Interested to see? Here goes nothing then:
Lab reports:
1. FM230 (Due on 10th of May) DONE!
2. MD 231 (Due on 20th of May)
3. SOM 232 (Due on 26th of May)

Assignments:
1. EM 233 (Part II, due on 24th of May)
2. MD 231 (Due on 26th of May)
3. EG232 (Part III, due on 31st of May)
4. SOM 232 (Due on 31st of May)

Mini project:
1. FM 230 (28th of May)

*p/s:
FM 230 - Fluid Mechanics 230
MD 231 - Machine Dynamics 231
SOM 232 - Strength of Materials 232
EM 233 - Engineering Mathematics 233
EG 233 - Engineering Graphics 233

Hmm, I think that's it. 8 assessments have just struck from nowhere. At least 1 was submitted yesterday, still, 7 to go! Oh hell, I wish I could have at least 36 hours per day. Basically, the lab reports and assignments are individual work and only the mini project for FM 230 is a group work. Holy goat, any better life for me?

Well, according to many, including seniors, 2nd year 1st semester is the toughest semester where a lot of assessments to handle, so, here's the evidence. Moreover, 2nd year 1st semester is the craziest semester where a lot of students will either switch their major or switch to other campuses. I hope this will not happen to me though!

So again, my dearest readers,

I hope you understand my current situation, and I believe some of you here are facing the same situation as me right now, or in the past perhaps. It doesn't mean that I will not blog, as mentioned earlier, I will not update as frequent as I can. Cheers and stay tuned yo! ^^

Tutorial: Cleaning the Dust inside Laptop

We humans take bath at least twice a day. Reason? To keep our self clean. What about our daily usage of laptop and desktop? From time to time, our laptop and desktop are also needed to be cleaned in order for them to perform well. If not, the consequences are terrible, such as overheat, and worse, hardware failure, I hope everyone knows about it. Just a little info if you don't know, dust is public enemy number 1 for PCs.

Image 1: Dust located around HSF (Heat Sink Fan).

So, I'm here to guide users whom are not really good with PCs, to clean our dusty laptop, internally. I will only guide on how to clean the dust inside laptop, as for desktop, it applies more or less the same steps. What we need are just screw driver, brush (any brush will do, even unused toothbrush), and you might need dust blower. Everything prepared? So let the party begin now!

Oh wait, before proceeding, here are some warnings and safety precautions:
1. If possible, ask some experienced people to stay by your side, for safety purpose.
2. Ensure your hands and equipments are clean and dry, do I've to tell you this?
3. Do not use vacuum, it's very harmful for motherboard! Unless you want to clean your HSF (Heat Sink Fan) externally.
4. Before you start cleaning, please unplug everything which is connected to your laptop, including the battery!
5. Using mouth to blow the dust inside is not advisable, use dust blower instead!
6. Choose a proper location to clean your laptop.

Alright, after obeying the above law notes, 1st, unscrew all the screws at the bottom of your laptop. Wait, only unscrew those screws which are related with the bottom cover, not all of the screws. Here's an example of mine, Acer Aspire 4920.

Image 2: Screws!

Saw the related screws? 8 of them! Now, unscrew the screws 1 by 1 which are opposite to each other. Get what I mean? See again Image 2, as above, saw the number sequence? They are not numbered clockwise or anti-clockwise. What I did was, I unscrewed the screws by following the numbers accordingly. Once you are done with it, take the cover off, and you will see your laptop's component inside! If possible, control your itchy hands for not touching those stuffs.

Image 3: Surgery in progress.

Then, you may start cleaning your laptop, with brush and dust blower. Most of the time, the dirtiest part will be the HSF (Heat Sink Fan), so, take your own sweet time to clean it. A gentle reminder, avoid using your mouth to blow the dust inside. You may use vacuum to suck the dust in HSF, if you know how to unplug your HSF, I'm not gonna teach here, because it's kinda risky. In my opinion, cleaning the HSF is the most important part, as for the other components, you may brush them gently.

Once you're done with everything, place the cover back and screw back like how you unscrewed it, I'm referring to the sequence. Remember, don't unscrew and screw the screws clockwise or anti-clockwise. This is to ensure that the cover is in the proper position. While screwing back, just screw the screws gently (don't tighten), once all of the screws are in the proper position, then only tighten those screws.

What do you think? It's not a hard job to clean your laptop right? By the way, if your laptop is still under warranty and the seals are still unbroken, you're not recommended to do so. As for mine, the warranty seals were broken since the day I bought, because of adding RAM. Also, if you dare not do, just ask someone who knows to help you, at the mean time, learn how to do! Enjoy~

An Honoured Day for all Mothers

Most of the countries, including Malaysia, Mother's Day falls on the second Sunday on May. The exact date is May 9 for the year of 2010.

Here's a short note for my mum:
Mummy, it will be a good day for you to rest, yet, I can do nothing much as we are distanced by South China Sea. I will do what a son supposed to do to fulfill your wishes and hopes, without quetching, as I'm your one and only son. For this Mother's Day, I can't afford to get you anything, however, I found something else where I obtained it from a website known as http://www.mothersdaycelebration.com. It may not be my work and words, yet, it's there specially for you. It's just a simple poem and I wanna dedicated this to you, as well as all mothers around the world.

Only One Mother

Hundreds of stars in the pretty sky,
Hundreds of shells on the shore together,
Hundreds of birds that go singing by,
Hundreds of lambs in the sunny weather.
Hundreds of dewdrops to greet the dawn,
Hundreds of bees in the purple clover,
Hundreds of butterflies on the lawn,
But only one mother the world wide over.

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!!!

Miri PIKOM PC Fair 2010 (I)

Once again, Miri was "assaulted" by the 'aliens' from PIKOM PC Fair. Due to location and population, they will only "assault" Miri once a year, unlike KL PC Fair, trice a year. Same as usual, Miri PC Fair 2010 was held in Miri Indoor Stadium. Somehow, according to the latest update (6th of May 2010) in PIKOM's website, there will be 2nd PC Fair 2010 in Miri on 2-4 July. Find out more at HERE.

Click on it for a larger view.

Anyway, for this trip, I went there with the purpose of surveying the prices of the current hardware. Based on my observations, the prices were slightly the same as before, no major drop or rise. So and so, some pictures of the scene were taken by me.

Image 1: 1 of the corners.
Image 2: 1 of the corners.
Image 3: The entire hall.

That's for all, it was not as crowd as KL PC Fair, of course. Don't forget, it was held in Miri Indoor Stadium. Furthermore, it was on Friday. Ah gosh, I'm missing KL PC Fair though, I wish to go back to KL as soon as possible!

Malaysia 1st Nuclear Power Plant?

As per title above, Malaysia is planning to setup a nuclear power plant to increase energy production and to reduce the usage of coal. It is expected to be fully-operated on 2021. However, the site to build up the nuclear power plant is not confirmed yet. Speaking of location, Datuk Seri Peter Chin Fah Kui, Minister of Energy, Green Technology and Water, said that the nuclear power plant will be located in an area which has high power demand...... [full story is available@ links #1 and #2 below]

On the other hand, Selangor has rejected the construction of the nuclear power plant in the state. Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim believes that there are alternative ways that can be done…... [full story is available @ link #3 below]

To read further, do visit the following links:
1. Site search is on for Malaysian nuclear plants.
2. Our first nuke plant by 2021.
3. Selangor Against Nuclear Power Plant.

As for me, I don’t know whether to support or to oppose the nuclear power plant in Malaysia. For a long term, it might be beneficial for Malaysia, but what will be the consequences? According to '60 minutes', nuclear power produces the cheapest electricity in Europe, mainly in France. Interesting huh?

A Cat or A Dog as Pet

Having a dilemma by choosing either a dog or a cat as a pet? Generally, both of them have their own respective characteristics and they are totally different. Here, I would like to share my point of view to those who are choosing either a cat or a dog as a pet, but not both.

First of all, I will compare their similarities. Both have four feet, both are mammals, both are furry animals. Aren’t that obvious? Those are the facts. Most of all, they do love their owner.

Despite of the similarities, the differences between a dog and a cat are huge. Please take note, they are kind of opposite to each other, I bet you knew about it. So, here goes the list:

---1. General characters---
I will mention both of their positive and negative sides. See how are they opposite to each other.
*Cats: Lazy, arrogant, calm, independent etc
*Dogs: Active, loyal, aggressive, dependent etc

---2. Hygiene---
I will apply the functions of cameras for this section. Cats are just like a modern DSLR while dogs are SLR.
*Cats: Have self-cleaning sensor, which means they know how to take a good care of their own personal hygiene, especially after meal.
*Dogs: Need to be cleaned with a dust blower, which means they need to take bath and owners have to do the job. Because of dogs’ activeness, they need to take bath frequently.

---3. Maintenance---
Many aspects can be listed in this section, but I will only list down the main points.
*Cats: Low and little care needed. Eat less, small spaces needed as they are small in size and they seldom run.
*Dogs: High and extra care required. Eat more, require bigger compartment (neglect small dogs like cup poodle) as they are big in size and they are too active, they simply love to run around and digging holes. In the growing stage, they will tend to bite anything in front of their eyes, especially shoes.

---4. Training---
In my mind, pets without trainings are kind of meaningless.
*Cats: Little training needed, for instant, train them not to pee in the house or just pee in the toilet and so on. Cats are not as intelligent as dogs, they don’t really remember comments.
*Dogs: Trainings are highly required or else your dog will be a wild dog, perhaps. Dogs are easily to be trained, just that more time is needed.

Basically, these are what that I can list out from my head. There are more differences on them, of course. In terms of loyalty, like I mentioned earlier, they love their owner, so, there should be no headache.

As for me, I will choose dog over cat as my pet. Few simple reasons, because of their activeness (attention seekers), they listen to comments and most of all, they are security guards of the house. Keep in mind, if you plan to get a dog, time wise, choose only if and only if you are willing to spend time with your dog, not only during puppy age. Or else, get a cat like Garfield instead.

What I mentioned above is based on my point of view, it can be partially right or totally wrong though. So, to all of my dearest readers, feel free to comment and continue the list though. Cheers.

HWM (April 2010 Issue)

Wow, I bought it on 1st of May, and I never expected that Popular bookstore in Miri still have the stock, although I bought it that late. Before I enter Popular, I expected that the HWM for April 2010 issue to be sold out, because the March issue was sold out even I went before April began. Am I consider lucky or what? 2 copies were there before I took 1. So, where's the previous crazy buyer whom bought all of the copies for March issue? Really cursed by me? :-#

Image 1: Cover page, not taken properly.
Image 2: 2 booklets.

And hell yeah, I got it for RM14 instead of RM17! What can I say, got it from a bookstore is better than a local magazine store though!

BBQ and Sunset @ Tanjung Lobang, Miri

Wanna find a place to BBQ with friends in Miri? Then just head to Tanjung Lobang, one of the best spot for BBQ, it is located by the beach, or else, Taman Awam. Both of these places are equipped with BBQ facilities.

So, my crazy friends have organised a BBQ on 1st of May. Alright, I've no idea with their plan, I only follow them blindly. Everything began around 2pm, where many of us started to gather at Tanjung. When we reached there around 2:30pm, it was drizzling. And holy, I've forgotten that 1st of May is Labour Day, the beach was packed with humans! Even an unknown band (to me) known as 'Warung Band' was there to perform a live show. Gosh, awful voices.

Anyhow, lucky there was an empty and clean BBQ spot for us. When the rain was gone, our madness began around 3:20pm! With the existence of our cool chef, David Poh, everything went smoothly except......

Image 1: Chicken?

Does it looks like a roasted chicken? Or black pepper chicken? LOL! Great job David. Anyway, I've to admit that the sunset at Tanjung was awesome! Here are some pictures of it, with my cute friends as my models. XD

Image 2: David Poh.
Image 2: Fang Jun and Elaine.
Image 4: Voon Fung and Chee Wai.
Image 5: Samuel Ng.
Image 6: All of us. Me? The 1 in blue at the back.
Image 7: Sunset at Tanjung.

Boys and girls, thanks for the BBQ though! Uh, I truly madly deeply felt in love with the sunset at Tanjung Lobang, Miri. I definitely will go there again just to capture sunset, wait for me ya!

Ohya by the way, if you wanna BBQ till late night, don't go to Tanjung, it will be dark as soon as the sun goes down. Head to Taman Awam instead if you plan to BBQ at night or till late night.

Movie Review: Iron Man 2

Yesterday, it was my 1st time stepped my feet in Miri’s 1 and only cinema, known as Star Cineplex, after staying here more than 2 years. Because I only love Imax theatre in Berjaya Times Square!!! =P Anyway, I just follow 14 Curtin peeps to watch Iron Man 2. I went to watch Iron Man 2 without watching Iron Man (part 1). hehe. To be frank, I never expected that I can laugh while watching Iron Man 2, get what I mean? I never expected that Iron Man can be funny though, because all the while I thought that Iron Man is a serious movie, shame of myself for not watching part 1.

Image: 15 tickets.

By the way, that's not me in the picture. Just a model. XD

Anyway, those who have watched Iron Man 2, did you discovered a retarded scene? Those who have not or going to watch, do take note. After Ivan Vanko (a physicist who taking revenge on behalf of his dad) was defeated by Tony Stark aka Iron Man in the Monaco Grand Prix, his legs were gone when the policemen were dragging him into the car. However, when he was in the prison, he can walk again? I’m not sure whether I missed the part where he obtained his legs or I saw it wrongly where he lost his legs. LOL

Based on my point of view, the movie was OK. Based on my friends’ point of view, if comparing Iron Man 2 with Iron Man part 1, part 1 is way much nicer. I guess I must watch Iron Man part 1! At the mean time, let's wait for Iron Man 3!
